Ab
(Kehelan strain) 1895 bay stallion
Purchased by the 1905 Military Commission
in Jhanute (Syria)
for the Yeguada Militar
"Selected
by the Cria Caballar’s second buying commission in Syria, he was imported
in 1905. Ab was the grandsire of Siria and is thus found in the pedigrees
of every descendant of the Zulima family including all horses tracing to
the Draper imports.
Although
Ab sired only three purebred foals, one of them was his daughter Oriental
(ex Zulima), chestnut 1907, who produced Siria (by Nowik) a chestnut mare
foaled in 1915, and she was, in turn, the dam of both *Meca and *Menfis,
two mares that need no introduction. Likewise, Siria's lineage thought
her daughter Beni-Amer is important.
Her
son Fabuloso (maternal grandsire of *Zurhama de Washoe) and granddaughters
*Palabrita and *Rabadilla established strong lines in Spain, America, and
elsewhere. Siria also was the dam of Sirio III (1925 chestnut stallion),
one of the senior sires for the Duke of Veragua.
Because
of the Civil War, it is technically impossible to trace the lines of all
his descendants. Therefore, we will never know just how profound
his bloodlines were in shaping the modern Spainsh family. However,
his daughter Sara certainly rates as one of Spain's all-time most significant
broodmares, having produced four daughters for the Yeguada Militar, including
Famula and Habladuria."
